Spotlight on Dalia Denova: Leading with Passion at The Wash Shop
At The Wash Shop, our team members are the heart of what we do. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Dalia Denova, Manager of our Austin Jollyville Rd shop, whose dedication, passion, and leadership have shaped one of Austin’s top car wash locations. With nine years in the industry, Dalia’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
A Passion for the Perfect Shine
Dalia never initially planned on joining the car wash industry, but she always had a deep appreciation for the way a clean car looks. From the shimmer of fresh paint to the crisp detail of spotless wheels, the beauty of a clean vehicle has always resonated with her. “It has always made me a little teary-eyed,” she shares. That passion turned into a career where she now leads one of the busiest locations in Austin.
The Best Part of the Job
For Dalia, the most rewarding part of her work isn’t just keeping cars spotless—it’s the people. Whether it’s her team or the customers, she finds joy in the connections she builds. “Knowing that a simple car wash can make someone smile” keeps her motivated every day. Walking through the tunnel, hearing the machines turn on, and feeling the energy of the operation gives her an adrenaline rush that never gets old.
Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry
As a woman in the car wash industry, Dalia has faced challenges, especially being a smaller woman in a field often seen as a “man’s world.” But she never let that hold her back. Instead, she took the challenge head-on and has thrived. “I turned it around,” she says. “I am enjoying every moment of it.” Her resilience and determination have helped her lead with confidence and strength.
A Career Milestone to Be Proud Of
When reflecting on her career, Dalia is most proud of the transformation of her store. Taking charge of what she calls “the monster” has been both a challenge and an incredible experience. Running one of Austin’s most important car washes isn’t easy, but seeing the growth and success of her location under The Wash Shop name is something she takes great pride in.
Growing with The Wash Shop
The Wash Shop has played a key role in Dalia’s professional growth. She has gained hands-on experience not only in car washing but also in business management. “I went from nuts and bolts to charts and Excel,” she says. Learning the technical and operational side of the business has expanded her skill set, giving her a deeper understanding of what it takes to run a successful location.
Advice for Women in the Industry
Dalia encourages women interested in the car wash industry to go for it—without fear. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you won’t make it because you’re a woman,” she advises. “No one has the experience at first; you learn as you go.” She recalls advice from a mentor, Mr. Swenson, who always reminded her that “you will never stop learning the car wash business.”
Mentors and Motivation
Throughout her career, Dalia has been inspired by Keith Bottoms and David Swenson. Keith’s wisdom and problem-solving skills helped guide her, while Mr. Swenson instilled in her the deep appreciation of a perfectly cleaned car—from the first spray of presoak to the final bead of water as the car exits.
Her biggest motivator, however, is Miss Tanya Criswell, who keeps her grounded and reminds her of her goals when things get tough. “A reminder that the smell of burnt hydraulic oil makes my heart happy can change my day,” Dalia jokes. Her drive comes from her customers, employees, and the continuous learning that comes with her role.
The Unexpected Side of Dalia
Few people know that despite her fearless leadership, Dalia has always been scared of heights. Yet, when something needs fixing at the wash, she doesn’t hesitate to climb a ladder to get the job done. “It’s all for the operation and customer service,” she says.
Work-Life Balance & Life Outside the Tunnel
Balancing work and personal life is key for Dalia. She makes a point not to bring work stress home or let personal issues affect her job. Outside of work, she spends time with her family, especially her kids, who always keep her on her toes.
Three Words to Describe the Job
For Dalia, being a manager at The Wash Shop is all about fun, excitement, and knowledge. She continues to grow, learn, and take on challenges every day—all while making sure every car leaves with the perfect shine.
Dalia’s story is a testament to what passion, perseverance, and leadership can achieve. Her journey at The Wash Shop is an inspiration to both her team and the customers she serves. If you ever visit her location, know that you’re in great hands with someone who truly loves what she does.
